Our Life in The Spirit from Romans 8

We are now God’s children and he has put his Spirit in us to live an abundant life of freedom, health, and love.  We are living a Life in the Spirit – Let’s read on to see what this is.

Verse 1 – So now there is no condemnation for those who belong to Christ Jesus

Verse 2 – And because you belong to him, the power of the life-giving Spirit has freed you from the power of sin that leads to death.

*Believers are not condemned of sin enslavement any longer, liberated from the death sin brings, but now we are free souls, living with Christ’s and God’s Spirit within our spirit.

Verse 3 – The law of Moses was unable to save us because of the weakness of our sinful nature.  So, God did what the law could not do.  No one could keep the great laws of God, so He sent his own Son in a body like the bodies we sinners have.  And in Jesus’ body, God declared an end to sin’s control over us by giving His Son as a sacrifice for our sins.

Verse 4 – He did this so that the just requirement of the law would be fully satisfied for us, so we do no longer follow our sinful nature but instead follow the Spirit.  Jesus set us free from the law of sin and death, we have eternal life through Jesus.

*We now live by the Spirit, trusting in the Holy Spirit to lead us, guide us, and teach us as Jesus also was being led by the Spirit of God when He was on this earth.

*Jesus said in John 16:13 – When the Spirit of truth comes, He will guide you into all the truth, for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears, He will speak, and He will declare to you the things that are to come.  Jesus was baptized with water and the Holy Spirit, also.  The Holy Spirit did come upon those 120 on the Day of Pentecost and the miraculous took place where 3,000 were born again and filled with God’s Spirit, also.

Verse 5 – Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit.

Verse 6 – So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death.  But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace (God infusing His abundant and everlasting life in us as believers in Christ now).  That’s the abundant life Ephesians 3:20 speaks aloud.

Verse 9 – But you are not controlled by your sinful nature.  You are controlled by the Spirit if we have the Spirit of God living in us.  (And remember that those who do not have the Spirit of Christ living in them, do not belong to Jesus.)

Verse 10 – And Christ lives within you, so even though your body will die because of sin, the Spirit gives us life because you have been made right with God.

Verse 11 – The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you.  And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, He will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.  He gave us life at birth.  He gave us spiritual life when we were born again.  He will always give us life eternal.

*Through Christ’s beatings and through the Spirit of the Lord, our mortal bodies are made alive, our living cells, when we get sick, are healed and we are made whole.  You have seen these miracles through the lives of your Pastor and wife.

*This word make alive, has the meaning of vivify (“make”) properly, make alive (zōos); i.e. “quicken,” vivify (“animate”); (figuratively) cause what is dead (inoperative) to have life; empower with divine life.

Verse 14 – For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God.

*We are being guided by the Holy Spirit daily, as He is teaching us, comforting us, giving us this new Jesus Life to live vibrantly and full of God’s life-giving power.

Verse 15 – So, you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves.  Instead, you received God’s Spirit when He adopted you as His own children.  Now we call Him, “Abba, Father.”

Verse 16 – For His Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.

Verse 17 – And since we are His children, we are His heirs.  In fact, together with Christ, we are heirs of God’s glory.  By God’s Spirit, now are His heirs with Christ.  What does this mean related to inheritance, as well as to “title-deeds, legacy, inheritance, heritable estate?”  We have what Jesus has, now in this life and in the one to come.  We have the fruit of the Spirit, joy, love, peace, etc..  Remember when Jesus prayed, “Let Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven?”  In us, in believers in Christ, this exuberant joy, this lasting peace, and pure love from Jesus through the Holy Spirit.  We have a new life now!

*What does the Holy Spirit do for us?  Let’s read the following verses of the Inspired word of God to remind us of how much God’s powerful love is upon and in us.

Verse 26 – And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness. For example, we don’t know what God wants us to pray for.  But the Holy Spirit prays for us with groanings that cannot be expressed in words.  The Holy Spirit is praying through us.

Verse 27 – And the Father who knows all hearts, knows what the Spirit is saying, for the Spirit pleads for us believers in harmony with God’s own will.

Verse 28 – And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose for them.

*(This describes what originates from God and is empowered by Him in our lives, through faith.)  That’s what we have in God, working in us to do His will, His purpose; Phil. 2:13 - For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases Him, us.

Now the benefit of the Holy Spirit is us.  Nothing can separate us from God’s love.  Its all about God’s love for us.

Verse 31 – What shall we say about such wonderful things as these?  If God is for us, who can ever be against us?

Verse 32 – Since he did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else?

Verse 33 – Who dares accuse us whom God has chosen for His own?  No one – for God Himself has given us right standing with Himself.

Verse 34 – Who then will condemn us?  No one – for Christ Jesus died for us and was raised to life for us, and He is sitting in the place of honor at God’s right hand, pleading for us.  Jesus is praying for us.

Verse 35 – Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?

Verse 37 – No, despite all these things (we go through in life), overwhelming victory is ours through Christ, who loved us.

Verse 38 – And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.  Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor worries about tomorrow – not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

Verse 39 – No power in the sky above or in the earth below – indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.  I am loved by God and in Jesus I love others.

So, in conclusion, we have the fullness of God in Salvation.  We have been given His Holy Spirit that energizes our lives, directs us, helps us in our weaknesses, and through Christ Jesus we have now inherited all God has for us as son and daughter for Himself, to love, to live with Him in the overwhelming victorious life through the new Spirit.  Praise the Lord for this new life in the Spirit as Believers in Christ Jesus.  We have been given a new Spirit, Jesus, sent by Him, The Father.  Praise Them!

God bless you all.
